CHAMPS is a strategy that promotes POSITIVE classroom environments. CHAMPS is an acronym that stands for:
Conversation
Help
Activity
Movement
Participation
Success
How CHAMPS works is at the start of each lesson, the teacher tells the students exactly what the their expectations are in each of the CHAMPS areas. Arrows are placed on the CHAMPS board (pictured on the left) so that the students have a visual reminder and know exactly what the teacher is expecting them to do to be successful in class. A sample CHAMPS is listed below. Each day I will randomly select a CHAMPS behavior and reward students with "Charger Cash" for behaving as expected. All teachers will be implementing some variation of CHAMPS in their classroom this year and they will also be in the hallways with "Charger Cash" to hand out to students demonstrating expected CHAMPS hallway behavior.
Sample CHAMPS:
Conversation - level 0/silent
Help - raise your hand if you have a question or need help
Activity - silent reading
Movement - stay in seat
Participation - teacher can observe student reading a book
Success - if you do everything above you will be successful
If you have any questions about CHAMPS or how it is used in my classroom, please feel free to contact me using the contact information located on this website.
